Before You Book: 8 Questions To Ask Wedding Professionals

Since shopping for the right wedding vendor is more-than-likely brand new to you it can feel quite stressful at times. Being prepared will help to alleviate this stress and is critical to your success in finding the right wedding professional.

Where do you go for advice? Who can you trust?

We’re not gonna sugar coat it here, it’s definitely gonna take some work but with the right help and knowledge you’ll put together that dream wedding you’ve always wanted.

Research and Homework.
Do some background work and you’ll feel more confident when you speak with a wedding professional. Plus, you’ll get more out of it. Gather information like pricing in your area, what services are available, vendor locations, etc. Talk to friends and people at work who have recently been married. Get online and look around at the different wedding sites like The Knot & Wedding Wire for ideas. Chat rooms are a great place to get advice from couples that have already gone through their planning process. Know what you want and what you don’t want in your wedding package before you meet with a wedding professional.

Set-up a Meeting.
Schedule a meeting. You’ll get a one-on-one experience and will be able to get a feel for their personality, style, and professionalism.

Ask the Questions You’ve Gathered.
Be sure to ask all the questions you’ve come-up with. This is valuable time with the wedding professional so get them to answer specifically and clearly. If you’re still unclear once they’ve answered, tell them you don’t understand and to please explain again. Remember, there are no stupid questions. A great wedding professional will take their time to make sure you understand everything to help you make the right choices.

Check Reviews.
Make sure you check multiple review sites like The Knot & Wedding Wire.

1. How many weddings do you book each year? How long have you been doing this?
Make sure your wedding professional has at least 5 years of experience under their belt. This experience has provided vendors with a wealth of knowledge and useful tips they will undoubtably share with you. This information is extremely valuable.

2. How much does the package I’m interested in cost?
Most of the time price is relative. Be sure to factor-in experience, reputation, skill, and overall professionalism. Usually the best wedding professionals come at a higher premium because they’re worth it.

3. How much do you require for deposit? When is the balance due?
Be sure this information is in their contract. If it isn’t, request that it be put in.

4. What is included in the package I’m interested in?
Packages are different from company-to-company therefore it’s hard to compare vendors without doing some research. The lowest price isn’t always the best since some higher quotes include services that you have to pay extra for in the lower priced packages. It may take some time to figure it out.

5. What happens if I cancel or postpone? What happens if you cancel? Do you have a back-up plan?
Most deposits are non-refundable. Ask if this information is included in their contract. The best wedding professionals have back-up plans for every possible scenario. Ask them about their backup plans.

6. Can I look over a sample contract?
If they say no, strike them off your list immediately. You need full-disclosure on something this important to you.

7. Do you have any additional fees?
Additional fees, taxes, travel costs, etc. need to be clearly laid-out in the contract. Know your bottom-line before you sign anything.

8. Do you have liability insurance?
The answer to this question needs to be yes. This protects you in-case of an accident on your special day. It also shows that this is a reputable company. Companies that don’t plan on being around for long usually don’t carry insurance.

There it is! With all the knowledge you gain from asking these important questions you’ll be able to make educated and confident decisions for your wedding day.

Remember, have fun with your planning. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event!
